What your child will learn: Letter Sounds
- Letters have a NAME and a SOUND. For reading, the sound matters most: 's' is named "ess" but says "sss" like a snake.
- Keep each sound short and crisp: 'b' says "b", not "buh".
- The five short vowel sounds: a (apple), e (egg), i (igloo), o (octopus), u (umbrella).
- Every word starts with a sound. Listen hard for the very first one you hear.
- Words that rhyme end with the same sound: cat, hat, bat.
