What your child will learn: Algebra II: Functions, Exponents & Trig
- Exponent laws: x³·x⁴ = x⁷ (add), (x³)⁴ = x¹² (multiply), x⁻² = 1/x². Anything⁰ = 1.
- Exponential growth: y = a·bˣ. Money at 5% interest: balance = 1000·(1.05)ᵗ, and it curves upward, unlike a straight line!
- Function notation: f(x) = 2x + 1 means 'plug in x'. f(3) = 7. Composition g(f(x)) chains machines together.
- SOH-CAH-TOA: sin = opposite/hypotenuse, cos = adjacent/hypotenuse, tan = opposite/adjacent. With one angle and one side, you can find a flagpole's height from its shadow!
