What your child will learn: The Constitution & How Government Works
- The Constitution is the supreme law of the United States; all other laws must agree with it.
- Power is separated into three branches, legislative, executive and judicial, each checking the others.
- Congress has two chambers: the House of Representatives (seats by population) and the Senate (two per state).
- Federalism divides power between the national government and the states.
- The Supreme Court can rule laws unconstitutional, a power called judicial review; amendments require supermajorities to pass.
