What your child will learn: Linear Equations & Functions
- A function is a rule: each input gets exactly one output. Think vending machine: press B4, get one snack.
- y = mx + b is a line: m is the slope (steepness), b is the y-intercept (starting point).
- Slope = rise/run = change in y รท change in x. Between (1,3) and (3,7): slope = (7โ3)/(3โ1) = 2.
- Real life: cost = 0.10 ร texts + 20 is a line! $20 flat fee (b), 10 cents per text (m).
