What your child will learn: Digraphs, Blends & Silent e
- A digraph is two letters making ONE sound: sh (ship), ch (chip), th (thin), wh (when).
- A blend is two letters you can still hear separately: bl (black), st (stop), fr (frog), sk (skip).
- Silent e sits at the end of a word, says nothing, and makes the vowel say its own name: hop → hope, kit → kite.
- That is why 'cap' and 'cape' look so similar but sound so different.
- Keep collecting sight words: they appear in almost every sentence you read.
