What your child will learn: Fractions & Decimals Unite
- To add fractions with the same denominator, add the tops: 2/8 + 3/8 = 5/8.
- Equivalent fractions look different but are equal: 1/2 = 2/4 = 4/8. Multiply top and bottom by the same number.
- Decimals use place value: 0.7 is 7 tenths, 0.25 is 25 hundredths.
- Money is decimals in disguise! $3.75 = 3 dollars + 75 hundredths of a dollar.
