What your child will learn: Integers & Solving Equations
- Integers include negatives: ... −3, −2, −1, 0, 1, 2, 3 ... Think temperature or owing money.
- Adding a negative moves left on the number line: 5 + (−8) = −3. Subtracting a negative flips to adding: 4 − (−2) = 6.
- Multiplying/dividing: same signs → positive, different signs → negative. (−3) × (−4) = 12.
- An equation is a balance scale. To solve x + 7 = 12, remove 7 from BOTH sides: x = 5. Whatever you do to one side, do to the other!
